Amy’s Birth Story (quick VBAC)

I had a really difficult labor with Noelle (38 hours of labor followed by a c-section) and not as bad, but still a scary time giving birth to Mason.  As a result, though I was thrilled to be pregnant again with baby #3, I was terrified of going through labor again.  I researched things a lot and really only managed to get myself more and more fearful.  I enlisted many to pray for me and with me that this delivery would be different.  My mom and my mother-in-law enlisted many to pray too.  Faithful women from my church were praying specific verses for me.  One woman in particular told me she was praying Exodus 1:19 for me.  The verse says, “The midwives said to Pharaoh,’Because the Hebrew women are not like the Egyptian women, for they are vigorous and give birth before the midwife comes to them’.”  I thanked her but doubted that I would ever be considered vigorous or quick in childbirth.  She insisted that I should go quickly to the hospital when labor started.

Well, I had false labor a few times over the weeks preceeding my due date (2/3/12).  So my continuing, yet inconsistent contractions on Feb. 8th hardly seemed noteworthy.  By dinner time the contractions had stopped and my hubby and I watched a movie and went to sleep.  I woke up at about 11:30pm with some serious contractions.  I tryed to patiently assess if this was real labor or not, but after only 15 or 20 minutes I woke Ben up and told him to get ready to go to the hospital.  He was slow to get moving, not that I can blame him really.  He assumed this labor would resemble the other two and there would be plenty of time.   We called our friend to come stay with our other two children while we were at the hospital.  They arrived at the house about an hour later.  By this time (about 1:50am) I was in incredible pain and I knew we had to get to the hospital quick.

Ben sped to the hospital.  Ben parked and I managed to walk up to the hospital.  Two steps inside the front doors of the hospital I had the unbelieveable and unstoppable urge to push.  I could not- not push.  I told Ben, “I have to push!”  He said, “No, not yet!”  Right then and there I dropped to the floor AND OUT CAME HER HEAD!   The rest was a blur as they ran to bring out a stretcher and pick me up and onto it.  As they ran me down the hall the nurse at the foot of the bed yelled, “I’m holding a purple head!”  Ha!  She had no idea what to do.  Within a minute they said I could push so I did one push and out came the rest of her body.  (what a difference this was from my other labors of 3 + hours of pushing each).

Praise God Gabriella was born at 2:20am on February 9th.   A healthy little girl weighing in at 9 lbs 5 oz.(a good sized baby!), lots of dark hair and absolutely beautiful.  I am so thankful to God for his UNDENIABLE answer to the  prayers of many on my behalf!   My doctor told me not to get my hopes up.  He said my labor would likely be difficult just like the others.  My Lord God is so good to bless me in this way with a less than 3 hour labor and my beautiful baby, Gabriella Suzanne.  Praise Jesus!
